Head Start
Head Start is a federally funded program designed to serve at-risk children and their families by implementing approaches and practices that are necessary to help young children grow up safe, healthy, and eager to learn. Northeast Head Start has successfully provided comprehensive child development services for low-income preschool children and their families since 1965. Services include education, nutrition, health, medical, dental, parental involvement and social services.
Northeast Head Start promotes the school readiness of low-income children by enhancing their cognitive, social and emotional development in two ways:
1. The learning environment supports children’s growth in language, literacy, mathematics, science, and emotional functioning, creative arts, physical skills, and approaches to learning, and
2. Each family is provided with health, educational, nutritional, social and other services when necessary
Head Start children also receive medical and dental care, enjoy healthy meals and snacks, and enjoy structured indoor and outdoor activities in a safe setting.
